New Champions League format won't change Luis Enrique's ways at PSG

New-look competition from 2024

UEFA confirmed the new format for the Champions League from the 2024-25 season on Thursday. The competition will be expanded to 36 teams, with each side playing eight matches in a single league table, rather than the current system of six matches in a group. The top eight teams will qualify automatically for the knockout stages, while the teams from ninth to 24th will compete in a play-off for the remaining eight places.

The changes have been made in order to make the Champions League more competitive and unpredictable. However, PSG coach Luis Enrique has said that he does not expect the new format to have a major impact on his team's approach to the competition.

Enrique: We will still try to win every game

"The Champions League is the biggest club competition in the world and we will always try to win every game, no matter what the format is," said Enrique. "We have a strong squad and we believe that we can compete with anyone. We are not going to change our approach because of the new format. We will still try to play our own game and dominate possession. We know that we will have to be at our best to win the competition, but we are confident that we can do it."

PSG have never won the Champions League, but they have been runners-up twice in the past four seasons. They will be hoping to go one better in the new format and Enrique is confident that they can do it.

PSG have a strong squad

"We have a lot of quality in our squad and we have a lot of experience in the Champions League," said Enrique. "We know what it takes to win this competition and we believe that we have the team to do it. We are going to give it our all and we are confident that we can achieve our goal of winning the Champions League."

PSG will begin their Champions League campaign in the group stage in September. They will be hoping to finish in the top eight in order to qualify automatically for the knockout stages. The draw for the group stage will be held on August 25.
