Noeleen Creen: Woman who ‘snatched’ one-year-old child in Belfast shopping centre give probation order

Creen Snatched The Child To Teach The Mother A Lesson

A woman who snatched a one-year-old child in a Belfast shopping centre has been given a probation order. Noeleen Creen, 42, took the child from her mother in the Victoria Square shopping centre in February 2020.

Creen Admitted To The Charges

Creen pleaded guilty to charges of child abduction and common assault. The court heard that Creen had snatched the child to teach the mother a lesson. She claimed that the mother had been ignoring her own children.

The judge said that Creen's actions were "completely unacceptable". However, he said that he was taking into account her guilty plea and her lack of previous convictions. Creen was given a two-year probation order.

Prompt Action By The Mother

The child's mother, who cannot be named for legal reasons, said that she was "relieved" that Creen had been given a probation order. She said that she hoped that the order would help Creen to understand the seriousness of her actions.

The mother praised the staff at the shopping centre for their quick actions. She said that they had helped to ensure that her child was returned to her safely.

Police Statement

A police spokesperson said that they were pleased with the outcome of the case. He said that Creen's actions had been "reckless and irresponsible".

The spokesperson said that the police would continue to work to protect children from harm. He urged parents to be vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the police.
